Sydney
has a new market, and if crowd reaction is anything to go by, it is a winner!
A glorious autumn day ushered in the launch of the Mooney Mooney River
Markets on Sunday March 30. By 9am opening time, over 50 stalls and
attractions had set up on the green outside the Mooney Mooney Club on the
Hawkesbury, and the crowds soon poured in.
A mini-festival styled event, market goers were greeted by the
haunting sounds of South American folk music as they wandered amongst the range
of eclectic stalls from food to fashion to jewellery, antiques, homewares,
plants, art and other offerings. As the day wore on, people stayed to
enjoy the entertainment, ranging from children’s clowning workshops to
performances of acoustic guitar and a powerful display of group African
drumming.
All in all, market management estimate that around 7,000-8,000 people
passed through on the day. Management and stall holders were pleasantly
overwhelmed by the public’s resounding support, and wish to assure those who
missed out on the river ferry service or who found parking hard to come by
at peak times, that these issues are being addressed for future markets.
“It
was a fabulous atmosphere and exceeded our expectations.’ said Linda Joannides
of the Mooney Mooney Club. ‘We
are thrilled with the results of the first markets and have a great platform to
build and grow the event to be a premier monthly destination, with a growing
focus on local fresh produce, gourmet foods and funky designer gear.”
“We
expect the next markets to be even bigger with twice the attractions and
stalls.”
Stall holders were also very happy with the event, with many saying it was the
best Markets they have attended and Market Management have been inundated with
new stall holders who want to come on board.
So mark down Sunday 27 April in your diary for the next Mooney Mooney
River Markets. It’s an experience you’ll take home.
